Thank God For The Plan
Thank God For The Plan

Today, we continue our focus on THE YEAR OF DISCOVERY, as we learn to maintain our posture of faith after God has revealed His plans for our future.

Key scriptures for this year:

2 Peter 3:18 GNT

"But continue to grow in the grace and in the knowledge of our Savior, Jesus Christ. To Him be glory now and forever."

Luke 10:20 Mirror

"It's time for you to rediscover who you are from Heaven's perspective."

1 John 3:10 Mirror

"There is a very visible and vast difference between living one's life from your God identity or from a fallen man's mindset."

Proverbs 25:2 NKJV

"It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter."

Jeremiah 29:13 NIV

"You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."

Scripture(s) we will study today:

Genesis 41:33-36 AMPC

"So now let Pharaoh seek out and provide a man discreet, understanding, proficient, and wise and set him over the land of Egypt [as governor]. Let Pharaoh do this; then let him select and appoint officers over the land, and take one-fifth [of the produce] of the [whole] land of Egypt in the seven plenteous years [year by year]. And let them gather all the food of these good years that are coming and lay up grain under the direction and authority of Pharaoh, and let them retain food [in fortified granaries] in the cities. And that food shall be put in store for the country against the seven years of hunger and famine that are to come upon the land of Egypt, so that the land may not be ruined and cut off by the famine."

Genesis 41:37 TPT

"Joseph's proposal pleased Pharaoh and all his advisers."

Supporting scriptures:

Proverbs 22:3 TPT

"A prudent person with insight foresees danger coming and prepares himself for it. But the senseless rush blindly forward and suffer the consequences."

Proverbs 21:5 ERV

"Careful planning leads to profit. Acting too quickly leads to poverty."

Proverbs 6:6-8 ERV

"You lazy people, you should watch what the ants do and learn from them. Ants have no ruler, no boss, and no leader. But in the summer, ants gather all of their food and save it. So when winter comes, there is plenty to eat."

Proverbs 16:3 AMPC

"Roll your works upon the Lord [commit and trust them wholly to Him; He will cause your thoughts to become agreeable to His will, and] so shall your plans be established and succeed."

Psalm 105:19 TPT

"God's promise to Joseph purged his character until it was time for his dreams to come true."

1 Samuel 7:12 NLT

"Samuel then took a large stone and placed it between the towns of Mizpah and Jeshanah. He named it Ebenezer (which means 'the stone of help'), for he said, 'Up to this point the Lord has helped us!'"

Psalm 103:2 AMPC

"Bless (affectionately, gratefully praise) the Lord, O my soul, and forget not [one of] all His benefits."

1 Thessalonians 5:18 TPT

"And in the midst of everything be always giving thanks, for this is God's perfect plan for you in Christ Jesus."

Setting the Stage:

Yesterday, we watched Joseph walk into Pharaoh's throne room and do what every wise man in Egypt could not do. He told the king what the dream meant: seven years of plenty, then seven years of famine, and the thing was "fully prepared and established by God." Now put yourself in that room for a second. The interpretation is finished. Joseph has done the one thing he was summoned to do. A prisoner who had just handed the most powerful man on earth a message that big would have every reason to stop talking, take a step back, and wait to be dismissed. Nobody asked him for anything else.

Joseph did not step back. He kept going. In the same breath, without a pause in the text, the prisoner started advising the king. "So now let Pharaoh seek out and provide a man discreet, understanding, proficient, and wise and set him over the land of Egypt." Then he laid out a plan, line by line. Appoint officers over the land. Take one-fifth of the produce of the whole land during the seven good years, "year by year." Gather all the food of the good years and lay up grain "under the direction and authority of Pharaoh." Store it "in fortified granaries" in the cities. Hold it in reserve for the seven years of famine, "so that the land may not be ruined and cut off by the famine." That is not a dream interpretation. That is a 14-year national operating plan, and it came out of a man who had been in a dungeon that morning.

Picture Pharaoh's face. He had asked for the meaning of a dream. What he got was the meaning, the timeline, and the strategy to survive it, delivered by a Hebrew slave who had never held a government post in his life. And the next verse tells you how it landed: "Joseph's proposal pleased Pharaoh and all his advisers." The same magicians and wise men who had stood there with nothing to say that morning were now nodding at a plan from a man they would have stepped over in the street.

Here is what I want you to see today. Joseph had no title yet. He was still, legally, a prisoner. But God did not wait for the position to give him the plan. God gave Joseph the plan first, and the plan is what opened the door to the position. Thirteen years of preparation had given him the wisdom to see what was coming and the training to know what to do about it. In THE YEAR OF DISCOVERY, understand that God does not just show you what is coming. He shows you what to do about it. And when you carry the plan, the position follows.

So, what does this mean for you today? A few things.

1. Joseph Did Not Stop At The Interpretation.

Most people would have. Joseph was summoned to interpret a dream, and he did, and the moment he finished, he had a choice: stop where the assignment ended or keep going where the need went. He kept going. "So now let Pharaoh..." Here is what happened in that moment. Joseph moved from telling Pharaoh what God was going to do to telling Pharaoh what Egypt should do about it. I have taught this before, and I call it prophetic strategy: the ability not just to know what is coming but to discern what to do about it. God does not just show you the storm; He shows you where and how to build to endure it. Solomon said, "A prudent person with insight foresees danger coming and prepares himself for it. But the senseless rush blindly forward and suffer the consequences" (Proverbs 22:3 TPT).

How this applies to you:

-- God shows you what is coming so you can do something about it.

-- Revelation without a response is just information. Joseph had revelation, and he turned it into a plan before he ever left the room.

-- Joseph did the thing he was asked to do, and then he did the thing the need required. The assignment was the interpretation; the destiny was the plan. Do not stop where your job description ends when God is showing you where the need is.

-- The reason Joseph left that room headed for a palace instead of back to a cell is that he did not stop at reading the dream. Anyone can point out a problem. God's people are supposed to know what to do about it.

-- Prophetic strategy is knowing what is coming and knowing what to do next.

-- When God shows you the next step in your destiny, He has already prepared you to take it.

-- Paul said God has prepared things "no eye has seen" for those who love Him (1 Corinthians 2:9-10 NLT), and the Spirit shows them to you so you can act on them.

-- In this year of discovery, I want you to consider these two questions this morning. 1) What has God been speaking to you about? And 2) Once He reveals things to you, what does He want you to do with that information?

2. God Gave Joseph The Details, Not Just The Vision.

Look at how specific the plan was. Not "Egypt should get ready." Joseph said: one man over the land. Officers appointed under him. One-fifth of the produce, collected year by year for seven years. All of it gathered and stored under Pharaoh's authority. Held in fortified granaries, city by city, not in one central warehouse. Kept in reserve for a famine that was still seven years away. That is quantity, timeline, governance, storage, and distribution, and every line of it came out of a man who walked in as a prisoner. I have said for years that casting vision and executing with operational excellence are both required for the success of any business or organization, and Joseph had both in one conversation.

How this applies to you:

-- Vision without details is a wish. Details without vision is just busywork. We serve as God who can give you the big picture and the fine print at the same time.

-- Solomon said, "Careful planning leads to profit. Acting too quickly leads to poverty" (Proverbs 21:5 ERV). God is a God of the details, and when He gives you a plan, He does not leave out the parts you need to execute it.

-- One-fifth was the number. Joseph did not tell Pharaoh to save "a lot"; he told him twenty percent, year by year, for seven years. When God gives you a plan, ask Him for the numbers and the dates, because He has them.

-- The grain was stored city by city, not in one warehouse, because God's plans are built to scale.

-- Solomon pointed to the ant, which gathers its food "in the summer" so that "when winter comes, there is plenty to eat" (Proverbs 6:6-8 ERV). Joseph's plan was the ant's plan at the scale of a nation: store in the plenty for the famine.

-- A prisoner walked into a room, spoke to a king, and laid out a plan for a national logistics operation with a decentralized distribution system, and he gave it to him on the spot. That's the type of wisdom God can download from heaven to you in any given moment.

-- The size of the plan God gives you is a clue to the size of your destiny.

-- Joseph proves that administrative excellence is a spiritual gift, because God cares about implementation, not just inspiration. To make what I just said very practical, God will not just give you the vision for the church, your department, or your business, but He will also give you the grace to execute that vision with excellence.

3. The Prison Taught Him To Speak The Throne's Language.

Where did a Hebrew slave learn to talk like that? Listen to the words again: appoint officers, collect one-fifth, gather under Pharaoh's authority, store in the cities, hold in reserve. That is the language of Egyptian government administration, and Joseph did not learn it in Canaan tending sheep in Canaan. He learned it in the prison. We saw it in Genesis 39. The warden put him over everything that happened in the royal prison, and Joseph had to learn how the monarchy executed its rule of government. So when he stood in front of Pharaoh and laid out a plan in Pharaoh's own administrative language, he was not guessing. He was speaking a language he had been learning for years in a room he never wanted to be in. "God's promise to Joseph purged his character until it was time for his dreams to come true" (Psalm 105:19 TPT).

How this applies to you:

-- The plan Joseph gave Pharaoh was in the exact administrative form Pharaoh's government used, because Joseph had been sending that government requests and reports for years. Nothing you learned in the hard place was wasted. It was helping you develop the vocabulary you will need in your next room.

-- If it is not the thing, it is the thing getting you ready for the thing.

-- God could not put Joseph in the palace to learn the palace, so He put the palace's paperwork in the prison and taught him there. God will bring the lessons of your future to wherever you are right now.

-- Every form Joseph filled out in the prison was a rehearsal for the day he would run the country. The skills you are building in a season you did not choose are tied to a destiny God chose for you before you were born. Learn everything you can where you are.

-- I will close this point with something you may not want to hear, but it is important for me to say it. The size of your assignment determines the size and length of your preparation. Let that sink in.

4. Thank God When The Tide Turns.

I need to pause the story here and say something, because this series has been heavy on endurance. For weeks, I have been telling you that you have the grace to endure, the grace to overcome, and the grace to keep believing God through the pit, the slavery, the false accusation, and the prison. All of that is true. But look at where Joseph is standing today. This morning he was a prisoner. By this verse, he is advising the king, and before the day is over, he will be the Prime Minister of Egypt.

I want you to know that when God turns the tide for you, you are supposed to stop and thank Him for it. Samuel set up a stone and called it Ebenezer, "for he said, 'Up to this point the Lord has helped us!'" (1 Samuel 7:12 NLT). Not all the way. Up to this point. You do not have to wait for the finish line to thank God for the ground He has already given you.

How this applies to you:

-- When the tide turns, stop and thank God.

-- Joseph was still legally a prisoner when Pharaoh started nodding at his plan. The victory was real before the title was. Do not wait for the paperwork to catch up to what God has already done.

-- "Up to this point the Lord has helped us" is a sentence you can say today, no matter how much road is left.

-- Some of you have been enduring so long that you have forgotten how to celebrate, but Israel said, "Yes, the Lord has done amazing things for us!" (Psalm 126:3 NLT). Relief is not a sin, so enjoy the turn.

-- Thank Him for the turn, and keep walking toward the finish.

-- The turn Joseph experienced in that room was not luck; it was a scheduled moment in a destiny God wrote before Joseph was born. When God turns the tide in your life, you are watching the plan unfold, so thank Him for the step and keep believing Him for the rest.

-- You may not be where you want to be, and you may not be where you believe God has called you to be. If you can acknowledge that you're at least on the way there, you should stop to say thank you.

That's enough for today.

Declaration of Faith:

Father, You show me what is coming and what to do about it!

I do not stop at the revelation; I move on the plan!

You give me the vision and the details!

Every lesson from my hard season is vocabulary for my next room!

If it is not the thing, it is the thing getting me ready for the thing!

You gave me the plan before You gave me the position!

This morning, I pause and say thank You!

Up to this point, You have helped me, and I know You will finish!

I enjoy the turn, and I keep walking toward the finish!

In THE YEAR OF DISCOVERY, GREATER IS COMING FOR ME!

I declare this by faith. In Jesus' name. Amen!

This is Today's Word. Apply it and prosper!
