Grace in Galatians (Part 168): The Two Gardens in Your Life

Today, we continue our focus on THE YEAR OF DISCOVERY, as we learn to maintain our posture of faith after God has revealed His plans for our future.
As part of this series, I am teaching a verse-by-verse exposition of the book of Galatians.
Key scriptures for this year:
2 Peter 3:18 GNT
“But continue to grow in the grace and in the knowledge of our Savior, Jesus Christ. To Him be glory now and forever.”
Luke 10:20 Mirror
“It’s time for you to rediscover who you are from Heaven’s perspective.”
1 John 3:10 Mirror
“There is a very visible and vast difference between living one’s life from your God identity or from a fallen man’s mindset.”
Proverbs 25:2 NKJV
“It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter.”
Jeremiah 29:13 NIV
“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
Scripture we will study today:
Galatians 6:8 NKJV
“For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.”
Galatians 6:8 TPT
“If you focus your life on satisfying the cravings of the flesh, you will receive the wages of corruption and death. But if you focus your life on the things of the Spirit, you will receive from him eternal life.”
Supporting scriptures:
Romans 8:5-6 TPT
“Those who are motivated by the flesh only pursue what benefits themselves. But those who live by the impulses of the Holy Spirit are motivated to pursue spiritual realities. For the mind-set of the flesh is death, but the mind-set controlled by the Spirit finds life and peace.”
Romans 8:13 NIV
“For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.”
Galatians 5:16-17 TPT
“As you yield freely to the dynamic life and power of the Holy Spirit, you will abandon the cravings of your self-life. For your self-life craves the things that offend the Holy Spirit and hinder him from living free within you! And the Holy Spirit’s intense cravings hinder your old self-life from dominating you!”
Proverbs 14:12 NKJV
“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.”
James 1:15 NIV
“Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.”
Setting the Stage:
In Parts 166 and 167, we spent two full days unpacking Galatians 6:7, where Paul established the universal law of sowing and reaping. In Part 166, we focused on the financial dimension and how this law governs your giving, your partnerships, and your generosity. Yesterday, we expanded the principle to cover your words, your thoughts, your time, and your habits. We established that you are ALWAYS planting something, whether you realize it or not.
Now Paul takes us one step deeper. In verse 8, he does not just tell you that you will reap what you sow. He tells you there are only two gardens you can sow into. Two fields. Two directions. You are either sowing to the flesh, or you are sowing to the Spirit. There is no third option. There is no neutral ground. Every investment of your time, your attention, your energy, your words, and your resources goes into one of these two gardens. And each garden produces a very different harvest. The flesh produces corruption. The Spirit produces life. That is not trying to threaten us. He is just informing us. He is warning us. He is explaining the reality of how the Kingdom operates. We should pay attention to this.
So, what does this mean for you today? A few things.
1. You Have Two Gardens, and Both of Them Are Growing.
I grew up in my military career as a network engineer. While today I’m primarily in the people business, I loved, and I still do love, working with equipment. The equipment that fuels our technology runs on a series of ones and zeros, which is binary. Equipment either works or does not. If it’s not working, you have to figure it out. Once you figure it out, it starts working.
Paul presents God’s truth today as a binary reality. You are either sowing to the flesh or sowing to the Spirit. There is no middle ground where nothing grows. Both gardens are active. Both gardens are receiving seed. And both gardens are producing a harvest right now in your life. The question is not whether something is growing. Something is ALWAYS growing. The question is which garden is getting the majority of your seed. If you are feeding the flesh more than you are feeding the Spirit, the flesh is going to dominate your life. If you are feeding the Spirit more than the flesh, the Spirit is going to dominate your life. It really is that simple. You are the farmer, and you get to decide which garden gets watered today.
How this applies to you:
— Stop pretending that there is a neutral position in this equation. You are not standing still. You are either moving toward the things of the Spirit or drifting toward the things of the flesh. There is no coasting in the Kingdom. Every day, you are actively feeding one garden or the other.
— Take inventory of what you consumed in the last 48 hours. What did you watch? What did you listen to? What did you read? Who did you spend time with? What dominated your thought life? The answers to those questions will tell you exactly which garden is getting what seed. Be careful not to give the wrong garden your best seed!
— This is not about perfection. None of us is perfect. This is about direction. You do not have to be flawless to sow to the Spirit. You just have to be intentional.
— Some of you have been frustrated because your spiritual life feels dry, but you have been feeding your flesh three meals a day and giving your spirit a snack once a week. You cannot starve the Spirit and expect it to produce abundance in your life.
— The flesh is loud, and the Spirit is gentle. That means the flesh will always seem more urgent, but the Spirit is always more important. Do not confuse volume with value.
— In THE YEAR OF DISCOVERY, discover which garden has been getting your best seed, and make the adjustment today. Not tomorrow. Not next week. Today.
— At the beginning of the year, my Pastor, Tony Brazelton, said that a key word for 2026 is the word recalibrate. While you are reading this or listening to the podcast, the Holy Spirit may lead you to make small adjustments. These are not huge shifts, but small tweaks. These small tweaks that we must all make from time to time are what keep us on the path to God’s best. Within the context of today’s message, it’s what keeps us feeding the right garden.
2. Sowing to the Flesh Produces Corruption, Not Just Consequences.
Paul does not say that sowing to the flesh produces “bad results.” He uses a much stronger word. He says it produces corruption. The Greek word here means: decay, deterioration, ruin. It is the idea of something rotting from the inside out. That is what happens when you consistently invest your life into the cravings of the flesh. It does not just create external problems. It creates internal decay. Your character starts to erode. Your discernment gets cloudy. Your peace dissipates. Be careful. Don’t feed the wrong garden.
How this applies to you:
— Consequences are external. If you sow bad seed, you get a bad harvest. It may be painful, but once the consequence is over, it’s over. But the apostle Paul didn’t use the word “consequences.” He used the word “corruption.” The type of sowing he’s talking about today is an internal thing, and when you sow this type of negative seed, it corrupts you from the inside out.
— The danger of sowing to the flesh is that the early harvest looks harmless. The first few crops from flesh-sowing might even feel good. That is the deception Paul warned about in verse 7. Do not be deceived. The early harvest is not the final harvest.
— Proverbs 14:12 says there is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.
— Corruption does not just affect you. It affects everyone connected to you. When a leader’s character decays, the people under that leader suffer. When a parent’s priorities shift, the children feel the impact. Sowing to the flesh will not only corrupt you internally, but it will negatively impact (externally) all those who are relying on you.
— Some of you are not in crisis yet, but you can feel the early symptoms of corruption in an area of your life. Something feels off. Your peace is slipping. Your passion for the things of God is fading. Do not ignore those warning signs. They are telling you that you have been feeding the wrong garden. There was a time in your life where you meditated on the Word, where you were excited about the things of God, where you surrounded yourself with the right people, where you fed your heart great things (that were all Bible-based), but little by little, your passion is fading because you’re no longer feeding your inner man the same things.
— In THE YEAR OF DISCOVERY, discover the areas where corruption has been quietly growing and uproot it before it spreads. The time to address decay is before it causes major damage in your life.
3. Sowing to the Spirit Produces Life That Cannot Be Destroyed.
On the other side of the equation, Paul says that the person who sows to the Spirit will reap everlasting life. Now, Paul is not talking about salvation here. The Galatians were already saved. He is talking about a quality of life that flows from the Spirit. When you consistently invest your time, your attention, your energy, and your resources into the things of the Spirit, the harvest is LIFE. Real life. Abundant life. Life that is not dependent on your circumstances. Life that cannot be shaken by what happens around you. Romans 8:6 says the mindset controlled by the Spirit finds life and peace.
How this applies to you:
— Every minute you spend in the Word of God, in prayer, in worship, and in fellowship with other believers is a seed planted in the Spirit-garden. That seed is producing a harvest of peace, clarity, strength, and purpose in your life right now, even if you cannot see it yet.
— Spirit-sowing does not always feel exciting. Sometimes it feels repetitive. Sometimes it feels ordinary. But do not confuse the experience of planting with the power of the harvest. A farmer does not judge the seed by how it feels in his hand. He judges it by what it produces in the ground. Keep planting.
— The harvest from Spirit-sowing is not just for you. When you sow to the Spirit, you produce life that overflows into your family, your workplace, your community, and your ministry. Isabella and I know that God has assigned us to many people, and God has assigned many people to us. Not only do we have to protect our hearts for our own sake, but if we allow our hearts to become corrupted, the impact will be felt in the lives of all those who receive from us in our ministry.
— Don’t underestimate the compound effect of Spirit-sowing. One year of consistent feeding on God’s Word builds a foundation. Five years can build a fortress. 20 years builds a legacy. I have been writing Today’s Word for over 28 years, and the harvest from that daily seed is still multiplying. Please know that whichever garden you feed the most is the one that will produce the greatest harvest IN and FROM your life!
4. The Choice Between Gardens Is a Daily Decision.
This is not a one-time choice. Paul is not asking you to make a single decision and then coast for the rest of your life. Sowing is a daily activity. Research tells us that the average person makes roughly 35,000 decisions a day. That is 35,000 seeds. Every morning you wake up, you are choosing which garden to feed first. Every time you pick up your phone, you are choosing which garden to feed. Every conversation, every thought, every dollar, every hour is a seed, and you are choosing where to plant it. The people who experience the fullness of the Spirit-harvest are not the ones who made one great decision. They are the ones who make thousands of small decisions, day after day, to keep feeding the right garden.
How this applies to you:
— The most important decision you make today is not the big one you have been praying about. It is the small one you make before breakfast. Do you reach for the Word or reach for your phone? Do you start with prayer or start with the news? That first seed of the day sets the trajectory for everything that follows.
— Stop waiting for a spiritual mountaintop experience to change your sowing patterns. Change them right now, in the ordinary, everyday moments. The most powerful Spirit-sowing happens in the mundane, not the overly dramatic. You know, I talk to you about consistency all the time. Consistency beats intensity.
— Some of you have been asking God to change your life while continuing to sow to the flesh in the same areas. That is like asking a farmer to grow corn while planting tomato seeds. The harvest is always connected to the seed. If you want a different life, you need to plant a different seed.
— Grace does not eliminate your need to choose, nor the consequences your choice leads to. Grace gives you the POWER to choose the Spirit. Before grace, you were enslaved to the flesh and had no option. Now, in Christ, you have the ability to sow to the Spirit every single day. Grace did not remove the choice. Grace made the right choice possible.
— In THE YEAR OF DISCOVERY, discover that your future is being built by the garden you feed today. Not the one you fed last year. Not the one you plan to feed next month. The one you feed today. Make today’s choice count.
That’s enough for today.
Declaration of Faith:
Father, I thank You for showing me that there are two gardens in my life, and I get to choose which one to feed!
I declare that from this day forward, I am sowing to the Spirit with my time, my words, my thoughts, my resources, and my attention!
I refuse to let the flesh dominate my sowing. The cravings of the flesh have no authority over my choices because grace has given me the power to choose the Spirit!
I uproot every seed of corruption that has taken root in my life. Where decay has been growing in secret, I expose it and replace it with Spirit-seed!
The harvest of the Spirit is life and peace, and that is the harvest I am cultivating in every area of my life!
I will not be deceived by the early harvest of flesh-sowing. I see through the deception, and I choose the eternal harvest over the temporary thrill!
Every day I will make the daily decision to feed the Spirit-garden first. My morning belongs to God, my attention belongs to God, and my best seed belongs to God!
The compound effect of my Spirit-sowing is building a legacy that will outlast every trial, every storm, and every attack the enemy sends my way!
I am a deliberate sower. I plant with purpose, I plant with faith, and I plant with the expectation of an extraordinary harvest!
I am living in THE YEAR OF DISCOVERY, and I have discovered which garden deserves my best seed. GREATER IS COMING FOR ME!
I declare this by faith. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
This is Today’s Word. Apply it and prosper!
