Today, we continue our focus on THE YEAR OF DISCOVERY, as we learn to maintain our posture of faith after God has revealed His plans for our future.

As part of this series, I am teaching a verse-by-verse exposition of the book of Galatians.

Key scriptures for this year:

2 Peter 3:18 GNT

“But continue to grow in the grace and in the knowledge of our Savior, Jesus Christ. To Him be glory now and forever.”

Luke 10:20 Mirror

“It’s time for you to rediscover who you are from Heaven’s perspective.”

1 John 3:10 Mirror

“There is a very visible and vast difference between living one’s life from your God identity or from a fallen man’s mindset.”

Proverbs 25:2 NKJV

“It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter.”

Jeremiah 29:13 NIV

“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

Scripture we will study today:

Galatians 6:4 TPT

“Let everyone be devoted to fulfilling the work God has given them to do with excellence, and their joy will be in doing what’s right and being themselves, and not in being affirmed by others.”

Galatians 6:4 ERV

“Don’t compare yourself with others. Just look at your own work to see if you have done anything to be proud of.”

Galatians 6:4 NLT

“Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else.”

Supporting scriptures:

2 Corinthians 10:12 NLT

“Oh, don’t worry; we wouldn’t dare say that we are as wonderful as these other men who tell you how important they are! But they are only comparing themselves with each other, using themselves as the standard of measurement. How ignorant!”

1 Corinthians 12:18 TPT

“But God has carefully designed each member and placed it in the body to function as He desires.”

Psalm 139:14 TPT

“I thank you, God, for making me so mysteriously complex! Everything you do is marvelously breathtaking. It simply amazes me to think about it! How thoroughly you know me, Lord!”

Hebrews 12:1 NIV

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”

Setting the Stage:

In the last two messages, Paul exposed the danger of self-deception and becoming a legend in your own mind. He showed us what happens when pride convinces you that you are too important to stoop down and serve others. Now Paul shifts from the warning to the solution. In verse 4, Paul tells us to stop looking at everyone else and start examining our own work. This is a grace principle.

Grace does not produce people who are obsessed with how they measure up against others. Grace produces people who are secure enough in God to focus on the assignment He gave them. Here is something worth knowing: when you stand before God, He is not going to pull out someone else’s ruler to measure your life. He has a ruler with YOUR name on it, and that ruler is YOUR assignment. He will only measure you against what He called YOU to do .

So, what does this mean for you today? A few things.

1. God Gave You YOUR Work, Not Someone Else’s.

The TPT says, “Let everyone be devoted to fulfilling the work God has given them to do.” Notice the language. The work God has given them. Not the work God gave your pastor. Not the work God gave your coworker. Not the work God gave the person you have been watching on social media. God gave YOU specific work to do, and that work is unique to your calling, your gifting, and your season. The moment you start measuring your assignment against someone else’s, you lose focus on the one God actually gave you.

How this applies to you:

— Your assignment was designed for your capacity. God did not give you someone else’s work because He did not give you someone else’s grace. The grace on your life is tailored to your assignment, and the grace on their life is tailored to theirs.

— Think of your assignment as a ruler. God is going to measure your life against that ruler. Not someone else’s ruler. YOUR ruler. And the grace He gave you is the exact grace you need to fulfill what that ruler measures.

— When you are devoted to YOUR work, you stop being distracted by everyone else’s. Devotion creates focus, and focus eliminates comparison.

— Some of you are frustrated right now, and the frustration has nothing to do with your ability. It has everything to do with the fact that you are trying to do work God never assigned to you. If you pursue something that’s not yours, you are going to need things that were not stored up for you, and you will also be relying on a grace that’s not there.

— Isabella and I learned this years ago in ministry. There were seasons where we looked at what other ministers or ministries were doing and felt like we were behind. But God was not asking us to run their race. He was asking us to be faithful to the work He put in our hands. The moment we locked in on that, everything shifted.

— Purpose is personal. God does not mass-produce assignments. He custom-builds them.

— Stop auditioning for a role that was never written for you. The role God wrote for you fits perfectly, and nobody else can play it.

— In THE YEAR OF DISCOVERY, discover the freedom and joy that comes from finally embracing your own lane.

2. Comparison is the Thief of Joy and the Enemy of Grace.

The ERV translation says it plainly: “Don’t compare yourself with others.” Paul is not making a suggestion. He is giving a command. Why? Because comparison does not produce growth. It produces either pride or discouragement, and neither one comes from God. When you compare yourself to someone you think is behind you, you become arrogant. When you compare yourself to someone you think is ahead of you, you become discouraged. Either way, you lose sight of what God is actually doing in your life.

How this applies to you:

— Comparison is a trap because it always uses incomplete information. You see someone’s highlight reel and compare it to your behind-the-scenes. That is not an honest measurement.

— Paul said in 2 Corinthians 10:12 that those who compare themselves among themselves are “not wise.” The NLT calls it ignorant. Strong language from an apostle who understood that every believer has a unique assignment.

— Social media has made comparison an epidemic. You can scroll for five minutes and find ten reasons to feel inadequate. But none of those reasons came from God. He has never once asked you to be someone else.

— Here is a grace truth that will set you free: you are not in competition with anyone. The Body of Christ is not a contest. It is a family where every member has a function, and no function is more important than another.

— Comparison kills contentment. And contentment is one of the most powerful expressions of faith. When you are content with who God made you and what God gave you, you are telling Him, “I trust Your design.”

— If you find yourself constantly measuring your progress against someone else’s, that is not ambition. That is insecurity looking for validation in the wrong place.

— In THE YEAR OF DISCOVERY, let God free you from the comparison trap. Discover that His plan for you is enough, His pace for you is intentional, and His grace for you is sufficient.

3. Your Joy Comes From Being Yourself, Not Being Affirmed by Others.

The TPT adds something powerful to this verse. It says your joy will be in “doing what’s right and being themselves, and not in being affirmed by others.” This is a grace revolution right here. The world teaches you that your value comes from external validation. From likes, followers, applause, promotions, and the approval of people around you. But Paul says your joy is found in doing your work with excellence and being who God made you to be. Period. No audience required.

How this applies to you:

— If your joy depends on the applause of people, your joy will always be unstable. People are fickle, and some are flat-out phony/fake. They celebrate you today and forget you tomorrow. But God’s affirmation is constant.

— Being yourself is an act of faith. It takes courage to stop performing for people and start living from the identity God gave you. Most people spend their lives being who others expect them to be instead of who God designed them to be.

— There is a deep, unshakable joy that comes from knowing you are doing exactly what God called you to do, even when nobody is watching. That joy does not need a spotlight to exist.

— I have been in rooms with people of significant influence, and I have been in small village churches in the Dominican Republic. I have preached to thousands, and I’ve also preached to five people in a tent in the middle of the desert. The joy is the same in both places when you know you are walking in your assignment.

— The need for external affirmation is often a sign that your internal identity is not yet settled.

— Paul wrote half the New Testament from a prison cell. No stage. No social media following. No conference invitations. Just a man who knew his assignment and did it with excellence, regardless of who was watching. That is what grace-fueled purpose looks like.

— In THE YEAR OF DISCOVERY, discover the joy of being your authentic self! This is one of the greatest blessings of my life. I’m at peace with myself when no one else is around, and I’m thankful for who God called me to be.

4. Excellence in Your Lane Beats Imitation in Someone Else’s.

Paul uses the word “excellence” in the TPT and the concept of testing or examining your own work in other translations. The Greek word here is dokimazo, which means to test, examine, or prove something genuine. Paul is saying: put your own work to the test. Examine it. Make sure it is authentic. Make sure it reflects the grace of God operating in your life. That anointing only flows when you are being authentic.

How this applies to you:

— Excellence is not perfection. Excellence is doing the work God gave you with the best of what He put in you. It is stewardship of your grace, your gifts, and your time.

— An imitation of someone else’s calling will always be inferior to the original version of yours. God did not design you to be a second-rate version of someone you admire. He designed you to be a first-rate version of yourself.

— Hebrews 12:1 says to run the race “marked out for us.” The race is marked. The lane is set. Your job is not to pick a lane. Your job is to run the one God already picked for you.

— Test your work regularly. Not against the standard of what someone else is producing, but against the standard of faithfulness to what God asked you to do. Are you being excellent where He planted you?

— In THE YEAR OF DISCOVERY, discover that your lane is not a limitation. It is a launching pad. When you commit to excellence in the specific work God gave you, He opens doors that comparison could never unlock.

That’s enough for today.

Declaration of Faith:

Father, I thank You that You gave me my own work to do, designed specifically for my calling, my gifting, and my season!

I refuse to compare myself with others. My assignment is unique, my grace is sufficient, and my lane is exactly where You want me!

I am devoted to fulfilling the work You have given me with excellence, and I will not be distracted by what You are doing in someone else’s life!

I am not in competition with anyone. I am a unique member of the Body of Christ, and my function matters!

Grace has freed me from the comparison trap. I am secure in my identity, confident in my purpose, and content with Your design! As a result, I do my work every day with excellence because I’m committed to being who you call me to be!

I am living the Grace life and GREATER IS COMING FOR ME!

I declare this by faith. In Jesus’ name. Amen!

This is Today’s Word. Apply it and prosper!
