Grace in Galatians (Part 117): What Equality Looks Like To God

Today, we continue our series entitled “Living the Grace Life,” where we will learn to embrace and walk in God’s unmerited, unearned, and often undeserved favor throughout 2025.

As part of this series, I am teaching a verse-by-verse exposition of the book of Galatians.

“My dear brothers and sisters, how can you claim to have faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ if you favor some people over others?”

Setting the Stage:

Here’s the most shocking truth about grace: GRACE MAKES EVERYONE EQUAL! Not similar. Not close. Not “pretty much the same.” EQUAL! Same access, same righteousness, same sonship, same standing before God!

Yesterday, we saw how the Judge became your Father through sonship. Today, Paul shows us that this same grace that made us all sons makes us ALL EQUAL sons! No VIP section. No spiritual hierarchy. No “more qualified” or “less qualified.” Just EQUAL!

Under the Law, there were LEVELS! Jews were superior to Gentiles. Free people were above slaves. Men had religious privileges women didn’t have. Priests had access that laypeople did not have. The entire system was built on distinctions, divisions, and degrees of access based on what you were born as and what you performed!

But Paul just demolished that entire system with one verse: “We are all the same; we are one in Christ Jesus!”

The religious world HATES this message because it destroys their hierarchies! Religious people love titles, and they love to put mandates on you to honor them based on their titles. But grace doesn’t care what the religious world thinks. Grace makes EVERYONE equal, and that levels the playing field completely!

So, what does this mean for you today? A few things.

1. Grace Makes Jews and Gentiles EQUAL: Your Religious Background Doesn’t Create Hierarchy.

Paul starts by destroying the biggest religious hierarchy of his day: “We are no longer Jews or Greeks.” This was MASSIVE! The Jews believed their ethnic and religious background gave them spiritual superiority. They had the Law, the covenants, the promises, and they looked down on Gentiles as spiritually inferior. But grace says, “You’re EQUAL now!” Jewish heritage doesn’t make you more righteous, and a Gentile background doesn’t make you less qualified!

How this applies to you:

— Under the Law, Jews had a religious advantage because they were born as “the covenant people.” But grace gives ALL people equal access through faith in Jesus, not through ethnic or religious heritage! The advantage is gone; the equality is here!

— Romans 10:12 confirms this: “Jew and Gentile are the same in this respect. They have the same Lord, who gives generously to all who call on him.”

— This means you can’t claim spiritual superiority based on where you were born, what church you grew up in, or what Christian family you came from! Your parents’ faith doesn’t make you more righteous. Now it does not matter if your father is a Pastor and your grandfather is a Bishop; your faith in Jesus makes you EQUAL to every other believer!

— Religious people love to create hierarchies: “I’m from the original denomination.” “My church has the right doctrine.” “My background makes me more spiritual.” But grace demolishes those divisions! In Christ, you’re all EQUAL, regardless of religious pedigree!

— You also can’t disqualify people from God’s blessings based on their background! If they’re in Christ, they have the SAME access, SAME righteousness, SAME sonship you do! Grace makes them your equal, whether you like it or not!

— Many Christians still operate with a “my group is better” mentality, looking down on believers from different denominations or traditions. But that’s Law-thinking! Grace-thinking says we’re EQUAL in Christ Jesus, and no religious background changes that!

— Today, check your heart: Are you looking down on other believers because of their background? If so, you’re rejecting the equality grace created! In Christ, there is no Jew or Greek; we’re all EQUAL, and that’s non-negotiable!

2. Grace Makes Rich and Poor EQUAL: Your Economic Status Doesn’t Determine Your Worth.

Next, Paul tackles social and economic hierarchy: “slave or free.” In the ancient world, this was the ultimate inequality! Slaves were property with no rights, and this type of slavery had nothing to do with skin color. You could wind up a slave if you had a debt you could not pay. So, free people had status, power, and privilege. But grace says, “You’re EQUAL now!” Your bank account, your job title, and your social status don’t determine your spiritual standing with God!

How this applies to you:

— Under the Law system, wealth and status mattered religiously! Who you knew, what you owned, and where you stood socially affected how people viewed your spirituality. But grace removes that completely! Rich or poor, powerful or powerless, CEO or janitor—in Christ, you’re all EQUAL with the same access to the Father!

— This means you cannot measure someone’s spiritual worth by their bank account! The world measures people by wealth and status; the Kingdom measures people by faith in Jesus! Grace makes the homeless man equal to the billionaire!

— James 2:1 destroys this hierarchy: “How can you claim to have faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ if you favor some people over others?” You can’t! Favoring wealthy members over poor members proves you’re operating in Law-thinking, not grace!

— Churches that cater to rich people and ignore poor people are rejecting the equality grace created! Grace-based churches welcome everyone with equal dignity because both the janitor and the CEO are equally righteous in Christ, equally loved by the Father, and have equal access to everything grace provides!

— This also means you shouldn’t feel inferior because you lack the wealth or status other believers have! Your access to God, your sonship, your righteousness, and your inheritance are NOT determined by your economic situation! You’re an equal son with full rights, regardless of your financial status!

— The Lord gives generously to ALL who call on Him, not just those who can afford to give generously! Grace doesn’t have a VIP section where wealthy people get better treatment! Everyone gets the same grace, the same righteousness, the same access: EQUAL!

— Today, evaluate how you treat people: Do you show more respect to those with money and power? If so, you’re operating in worldly, Law-based thinking! Grace makes everyone EQUAL, regardless of economic status, and you need to treat them that way! As believers, we are called to show honor and respect to everyone, from the CEO and the janitor, to the General and the Private, the rich and the poor.

3. Grace Makes Men and Women EQUAL: Gender Doesn’t Create Spiritual Advantage.

Now Paul destroys gender-based spiritual hierarchy: “male or female.” In the ancient Jewish religious world, men had privileges women didn’t have! Men could study Torah; women couldn’t. Men participated fully in the synagogue; women were separated. But grace says, “You’re EQUAL now!” Gender doesn’t determine your spiritual access, your value, or your standing in God’s Kingdom!

How this applies to you:

— Under the Law, religious access was gender-specific! Men could do spiritually what women couldn’t. But grace eliminates that inequality completely! Male or female, you both have the SAME access to God, the SAME righteousness, the SAME sonship, and the SAME Holy Spirit! Equal means equal!

— First Corinthians 12:13 confirms this: “We have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit.” The Holy Spirit doesn’t give men more access or power than women! The Spirit is the SAME for all believers, making everyone EQUAL! Women are NO LESS anointed than men!

— This doesn’t erase role distinctions in family, church, or society. But it DOES mean that spiritually, men and women are EQUALS in Christ!

— Women have full sonship rights (sonship is about legal standing, not gender), full access to the Father, and full participation in the inheritance! They’re not second-class citizens; they’re EQUAL citizens with the same standing as men! Grace doesn’t create gender-based hierarchy!

— Men cannot claim spiritual superiority based on their gender! You don’t pray more effectively because you’re a man; you pray effectively because you’re IN CHRIST, and women in Christ pray with the same authority, access, and confidence! Equal access means equal effectiveness!

— Under the Old Covenant, women could not enter the Most Holy Place. Women could not be part of the Levitical Priesthood. Women were kept in what some consider to be “their place.” However, under grace, women have the same access to God, they have the same Holy Spirit, and they can operate in divine power EQUAL to men!

— Churches that treat women as spiritually inferior today are rejecting the equality grace created! Grace levels the playing field: male or female, you’re all one in Christ Jesus, with equal standing before God!

— Today, check your attitude: Do you view women as spiritually less than men, or do you recognize that grace made everyone EQUAL? Gender doesn’t create hierarchy in the Kingdom. Christ in you is what matters, and He lives equally in men and women!

4. Grace Makes Christ the ONLY Thing That Matters: And He Lives in EVERY BELIEVER Equally!

Finally, Paul brings it all together: “We are all the same—we are Christians; we are one in Christ Jesus.” This is the entire point! CHRIST is what matters, not your ethnic background, not your social or economic status, and not your gender! And because Christ lives in ALL believers equally, we all have equal standing, equal access, and equal sonship! No one gets more of Jesus than anyone else!

How this applies to you:

— Colossians 3:11 says it perfectly: “Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us.” This means the ONLY question that determines your spiritual standing is: Is Christ in you? If yes, then you’re EQUAL to every other believer, regardless of background, wealth, or gender!

— The Law created inequality based on performance: who you were born as, what you achieved, and what rules you kept. But grace creates EQUALITY based on one thing: CHRIST! If you’re in Him, you’re equal to every other believer on the planet! No exceptions!

— Ephesians 2:14-15 explains HOW this equality happened: Christ “broke down the wall of hostility that separated us” by ending the system of law with its commandments and regulations! The Law built walls of inequality; grace tore them down and created equality!

— This means the ground is level at the foot of the cross! You don’t come to God through credentials, background, achievements, or performance. You come through CHRIST, and everyone who comes through Christ has EQUAL access! No one gets a head start!

— When you truly understand this equality, you stop comparing yourself to other believers! You stop thinking, “I’m better than them” or “I’m less than them.” The only thing that matters is: Are you in Christ? If yes, you’re EQUAL, and comparison becomes pointless!

— Today, stop looking at external factors to determine spiritual worth! The ONLY thing that matters is Christ, and if He lives in you, then you have everything you need, equal access to the Father, and full sonship rights! Grace doesn’t create levels; grace creates EQUALITY! In Christ, we are ALL one, and we ALL have equal access to our divine purpose. We are all unique. There is no need to compare. God is not going to measure you against my purpose or measure me against yours. When we stand before God, He is going to want to know if WE CHOSE to make the most of the ONE LIFE He gave us. We gave us His Son, His Spirit, and a specific purpose. He will want to know: What did YOU do with it? Don’t waste your ONE SHOT at life comparing yourself to anyone else!

Declaration of Faith:

Father, I thank You that grace makes EVERYONE equal in Christ!

I declare that my religious background doesn’t make me superior or inferior to anyone!

My economic status does not determine my spiritual worth; I am EQUAL to every believer regardless of wealth!

My gender does not create hierarchy; I have full and EQUAL sonship rights because I am in Christ!

I refuse to measure people by external factors; the only thing that matters is Christ, and He makes us EQUAL!

I will not create divisions or hierarchies based on denomination, background, wealth, gender, or any other category!

I celebrate the absolute EQUALITY grace created—we are ALL one in Christ Jesus!

Christ lives in me, and He lives EQUALLY in every believer, making us all EQUAL sons with EQUAL inheritance rights!

The ground is level at the foot of the cross, and I will treat every believer as my EQUAL!

I’m living the Grace Life where EQUALITY in Christ matters more than worldly distinctions, and GREATER IS COMING FOR ME!
