Grace in Galatians (Part 103): The Promises God Made To You Directly

Today, we continue our series entitled “Living the Grace Life,” where we will learn to embrace and walk in God’s unmerited, unearned, and often undeserved favor throughout 2025.

As part of this series, I am teaching a verse-by-verse exposition of the book of Galatians.

Setting the Stage:

Over the last two messages, we’ve established that the Law was temporary and had a specific purpose. The purpose of the Law was to reveal sin and drive us to Jesus. One of the keys that Paul explained was that the Law was administered through Moses. In this way, Moses served as an intermediary between God and the people. When the people needed to hear from God, they went to Moses, and Moses went to God. Then Moses would tell the people what God said. Later, the Levitical Priesthood did the same thing. They were the intermediaries. But that was all part of the Old Covenant. Here’s what makes grace so superior: when God made His promise to Abraham, He didn’t use an intermediary! God made the promise DIRECTLY!

Paul is making a profound point here. The Law required Moses to stand between God and the people. But the promise didn’t! God personally spoke the promise to Abraham, and God personally fulfills that promise to us today through Christ! There’s no middle person, no mediator of the promise, no one standing between us and God’s grace!

I need you to know that, at the time, this was revolutionary! Under the Law, you needed priests, sacrifices, and strict protocols to approach God. But under grace, God comes to You directly, and you can go to Him directly!

So, what does this mean for you today? A few things.

1. God’s Promise to You Is Personal and Direct.

Paul makes a critical legal point: A mediator is only necessary when more than one party needs to reach an agreement. But God is ONE! When God made His promise to Abraham (and through Abraham to you in Christ), He needed NO MEDIATOR because He alone represents Himself and His Word! The Law required Moses to stand between God and the people. But with God’s promise, there’s no go-between. God spoke DIRECTLY! This means your relationship with God under grace is immediate and personal!

How this applies to you:

— You don’t need anyone to stand between you and God. Under the Old Covenant, the people couldn’t approach God directly; they needed priests to intercede. But under the New Covenant, YOU have direct access to the throne of grace! You can talk to God anytime, anywhere, about anything! No appointments needed, no special protocols, no human mediators required!

— Your blessing doesn’t depend on your Pastor’s prayers, your spouse’s faith, or your parents’ righteousness. While these things can support and encourage you, God’s promise to bless you is DIRECT!

— When you wake up in the morning, you can talk to God before you talk to anyone else. You don’t have to go through religious rituals or wait until you “feel worthy.” God personally wants to hear from YOU! He’s not waiting for you to get someone else to talk to Him on your behalf; He’s waiting to hear YOUR voice!

— In times of trouble or crisis, you can cry out to God directly. You don’t have to wait for Sunday service or find your Pastor to pray for you. God hears YOU! Your prayers are just as powerful and effective as anyone else’s because you have the same direct access that every believer has!

— Stop feeling inferior because you’re not a pastor or ministry leader. God’s promise to you is just as personal, powerful, and direct as it is to them! You have the same Holy Spirit, the same access to the Father, and the same inheritance! Your position in Christ is not based on your ministry title; it’s based on God’s personal promise to you!

— Throughout your day, maintain an ongoing conversation with God. Since no intermediary is needed, you can talk to Him while you’re working, driving, cooking, or exercising. Grace makes your relationship with God conversational and continuous, not formal and occasional!

2. No Human Can Stand Between You and Your Inheritance.

Because God made His promise directly and personally, therefore, no person, system, or institution can control your access to what God promised! This is freedom! Under the Law, priests controlled access to God. But under grace, NO ONE controls your access!

How this applies to you:

— No religious leader can block your blessing. Some ministries try to make you feel like you need them to access God’s favor. But God’s promise to you is DIRECT! You don’t need someone else’s permission, approval, or intercession to receive what God already promised you! You should honor those in spiritual authority, but don’t give anyone power over your direct relationship with God!

— Under grace, your past doesn’t disqualify you from God’s promise. Some people believe their history makes them unworthy of God’s blessing. But God’s promise isn’t based on your past; it’s based on His character! He personally promised to bless you, and no amount of past failure can cancel what God said! If God said it, it’s settled!

— Other people’s opinions can’t stop what God promised you. When Nehemiah was rebuilding the wall, his enemies and even non-enemies tried to discourage him. But Nehemiah knew God had personally called him to the work! The same is true for you; when God speaks a promise directly to your heart, no amount of criticism can cancel it! Keep believing what God said!

— Your family’s unbelief can’t stop your breakthrough. Maybe you’re the first believer in your family, and they think you’re crazy for believing God’s promises (this happened to me). That’s okay! God’s promise to YOU is direct and personal! Their doubt doesn’t affect your access to grace! Keep believing, keep declaring, and keep walking in faith! Eventually, they will have to acknowledge the hand of God on your life (like my family did).

— Religious traditions can’t limit what grace provides. Some denominations teach that certain blessings are only for “special” people or that some gifts ended in the first century. But God’s promise is to ALL who are in Christ! If you’re in Him, every promise is YES and AMEN! Don’t let tradition rob you of what grace freely gives!

— Financial struggles don’t mean God’s promise failed. Sometimes believers think, “If God promised to bless me, why am I struggling?” But remember, the promise is secure even when circumstances are challenging! Abraham had the promise but waited 25 years for Isaac. Your current situation doesn’t mean God’s promise is not in place; it just means the promise has not fully manifested yet.

— Since I just made a point about finances, I also need to point out that the size of our financial harvest is tied to the size of our financial seed. Paul was clear in Corinthians that if we sow little, we will reap little. If we sow much, we will reap much. In this way, we get to somewhat dictate the size of our reaping by the size of our sowing. So, to be clear, if you choose NOT to SOW, then you will NOT REAP, but that does not mean God does not love you, it does not mean you don’t have direct access to Him, and it does not mean THE BLESSING is not on you. It just means that you are not participating in the system of cause and effect and sowing and reaping. There is a difference between your inheritance (that we all get) and your harvest (that is based on what we individually choose to sow).

3. God Personally Guarantees Your Blessing.

Here’s the beauty of this truth: when God makes a promise directly, He takes full responsibility for fulfilling it! There’s no one else to blame if it doesn’t happen. God put His own reputation on the line! The writer of Hebrews says God couldn’t swear by anyone greater, so He swore by Himself! Your blessing is backed by God’s own integrity!

How this applies to you:

— When doubts come, remind yourself that God Himself guaranteed the promise; you did not get it second-hand. Therefore, you are not relying on anyone but Goda, and you are not even trusting in your ability to earn it. What you are doing is trusting in God’s ability to fulfill it!

— In seasons of waiting, remember that God’s timing is perfect. Abraham waited 25 years between the promise and Isaac’s birth. But God’s promise never changed! God was preparing both Abraham and Sarah for the fulfillment. In times of waiting, God is not punishing you; He is preparing you for what He prepared FOR you!

— When it looks impossible, that’s when faith shines brightest. Abraham and Sarah were physically unable to have children, but God promised them a son! The impossibility of the situation didn’t change the certainty of God’s promise! What looks impossible to you is an opportunity for God to show His power! Keep believing even when natural circumstances say “no way!”

— When others give up on their dreams, you can keep believing because your promise came from God Himself. People will quit when things get hard, but you’re different! Your promise didn’t come from a motivational speaker or a self-help book; it came from the Almighty God! Keep standing, keep believing, keep declaring! God personally guarantees your breakthrough!

— God’s promise to you includes everything He prepared for you before the world began. Ephesians 1:3 says “EVERY spiritual blessing” has already been given to us! That means healing, provision, wisdom, favor, peace, joy, and power are all part of the package! Receive it all!

— Here’s your declaration: God said it, I believe it, and that settles it! I’m not moved by what I see; I’m moved by what God said! He personally made the promise, and He personally will fulfill it!

4. The Promise Is More Reliable Than the Law Ever Was.

Paul’s whole point in contrasting the promise with the Law is to show you which system is superior! The Law required human intermediaries who could fail, priests who could sin, and sacrifices that had to be repeated. But the promise requires only one thing: faith in what God said!

How this applies to you:

— When you fall short, don’t think you lost the promise. Under the Law, one violation meant judgment. But under the promise, your standing is secure because it’s based on God’s faithfulness, not yours!

— Your obedience should flow from gratitude, not fear. The Law motivated people through the fear of punishment. And religious churches still do this today. But God’s promise motivates through love and thankfulness!

— In your relationships, you can love difficult people because grace has filled you with God’s love. The Law said “love your neighbor,” but gave no power to do it. The promise says God’s love has been poured into your heart by the Holy Spirit!

— Under the New Covenant, you can forgive, extend grace, and love sacrificially because God personally promised to empower you to do it! You’re not doing it in your own strength; His grace is working through you!

— At the end of the day, you can rest in peace knowing that God’s promise is working in your life. You don’t have to lie awake worrying about whether you did enough or if you’re going to lose your blessing. God PERSONALLY made the promise, and He PERSONALLY guarantees it! Your job is to believe it and receive it! Sleep well tonight knowing that what God promised, God will perform!

Father, I thank You for making Your promise directly and personally to me!

I don’t need an intermediary; I have direct access to You through Christ!

No person, system, or circumstance can stand between me and my inheritance!

You personally guaranteed every promise, and You can’t lie!

I am blessed because You said so, not because I have earned it!

Every spiritual blessing in heavenly places is already mine in Christ!

My standing with You is secure because it’s based on Your faithfulness, not mine!

I receive healing, provision, wisdom, favor, and power by faith today!

No weapon formed against me will prosper because Your promise is backed by Your integrity!

I am Living the Grace Life, and GREATER IS COMING FOR ME!
