Discovering Destiny (Part 6) – Moses: The Weight of the Assignment

Today, we continue our focus on THE YEAR OF DISCOVERY, as we learn to maintain our posture of faith after God has revealed His plans for our future.

So far in our “Discovering Destiny” series, we learned that you discover your destiny, that God planned you before time began, that He made a masterpiece when He made you, that there is a book in heaven with your name on it, and that God knew you before the womb. This week, we step fully into the witnesses, the men and women God planned before birth, and we begin with a baby who had a death warrant on him before he could walk. His name is Moses.

Exodus 1:22 ERV“So Pharaoh gave this command to all his people: ‘Every time a boy is born to the Hebrews, you must throw him into the Nile River. But let all the girl babies live.'”

Exodus 2:9-10 ERV“The king’s daughter said to the woman, ‘Take this baby and feed him for me. I will pay you to take care of him.’ So the woman took her baby and cared for him. The child grew older, and the woman gave him to the king’s daughter. She accepted him as her own son. She named him Moses, because she had pulled him from the water.”

The Egyptians taught Moses everything they knew. He was a powerful man in all he said and did.”

Isaiah 54:17 NKJV“No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from Me, says the Lord.”

Matthew 2:16 ERV“When Herod saw that the wise men had fooled him, he was very angry. So he gave an order to kill all the baby boys in Bethlehem and in all the surrounding areas. This was the time he had learned from the wise men. It was two years from that time, so he said to kill all the boys who were two years old and younger.”

Setting the Stage:

Before Moses could roll over, there was a kingdom-wide order to kill him. Pharaoh decreed that every Hebrew baby boy be thrown into the Nile. Think about that. A baby in diapers became a national security threat to the most powerful man on earth. Why? Because that baby was carrying an assignment. Moses was born to lead an entire nation out of slavery, and the enemy knew it before Moses ever knew it.

So here is the principle I want you to carry into this week: the greater the assignment, the greater the attack. The attack on baby Moses was not random. It was targeted. Hell does not waste ammunition on people going nowhere. The very fact that you have faced uncommon opposition may be the clearest evidence that you are carrying an uncommon assignment. Let me show you what God did with the baby Egypt wanted dead.

So, what does this mean for you today? A few things.

1. The Greater The Assignment, The Greater The Attack.

Moses was born for one of the largest assignments in human history. He would confront Pharaoh, part a sea, and lead a nation to freedom. And almost immediately, there was an order to end his life. The size of the threat against him matched the size of the call on him. That is not a coincidence. That is a pattern.

How this applies to you:

— Pharaoh did not declare war on every baby in Egypt. He declared war on the Hebrew boys because he was told a deliverer was coming. The attack was aimed at the assignment.

— The enemy does not fight you over who you are. He fights you over who you are called to be.

— Exodus 1:22 ERV records the decree to throw every Hebrew boy into the Nile. That is an entire government mobilized against children, because one of those children carried a calling.

— Now watch the same pattern repeat with the greatest Deliverer of all. Moses came to deliver a nation, and a king tried to kill him at birth. Jesus came to deliver the whole world, and a king tried to kill Him at birth, too.

— Matthew 2:16 ERV says Herod ordered every boy in Bethlehem two years old and under to be killed, all because wise men told him a King had been born.

— The two babies sent to set people free were the two babies hell fought hardest to destroy. Not because of the threat they were as a baby, but because of the threat their assignment was to this world. 

— Heaven does not assign great purpose without hell taking notice.

— If the attacks on your life have felt heavier than the attacks on the people around you, stop reading it as a curse and start reading it as a clue.

— The opposition you survived was never proof that something is wrong WITH you. It is proof that something is great IN you.

— You are not under attack because you are weak. You are under attack because you are dangerous to the kingdom of darkness. Satan only attacks those who are worth attacking.

— If you never face opposition from the enemy, then chances are you are not doing anything of significance for the kingdom. 

2. The Enemy Knew Your Assignment Before You Did.

Here is a detail Jewish history preserves about this moment. The record tells us Pharaoh’s own soothsayers, sorcerers, and magicians warned him that a deliverer of the Hebrews was about to be born. That is why a baby triggered a decree. The powers of darkness had intelligence on Moses before Moses had words. And the same enemy has been watching you longer than you have been chasing God.

How this applies to you:

— Pharaoh did not panic over a population. He panicked over a prophecy. 

— The enemy often recognizes your calling before you do, which is why some of you were under attack before you ever surrendered your life to God. I can tell you my testimony, but the same thing happened to me. 

— Think about the things that came against you as a child, long before you could understand them. That was not bad luck. That was early opposition to a future assignment.

— Isaiah 54:17 NKJV says, “No weapon formed against you shall prosper.” The enemy is allowed to form the weapon, but he is not allowed to finish the job.

— The poison the enemy mixed for you could not stop the plan God wrote for you. Or, the way I like to say it, the enemy’s poison cannot stop your purpose. 

— What the enemy meant as an execution, God used as an introduction. The attack put Moses on a path straight to the palace.

— The devil’s intelligence is real, but it is not sovereign. He can read your assignment, but he cannot revoke it, and he cannot stop it, if you are submitted to God.

3. God can turn it around for you!

When Moses grew too big to hide, his mother did something that looked like surrender but was actually faith. She put him in the very river that was supposed to kill him. She released him into the water, and without knowing it, she was releasing him into his assignment. The Nile was the murder weapon. And God turned that same river into the highway that floated her son straight to Pharaoh’s daughter. The thing assigned to end him became the thing that delivered him. 

How this applies to you:

— Make no mistake. What the enemy means for evil, God can turn around for your good. 

— Hebrews 11:23 ERV says his parents “were not afraid to disobey the king’s order.” Releasing Moses into the water was not them giving up. It was them trusting God a baby that could no longer be hid. 

— There comes a point where the call on your life grows too big to keep covered. You were not made to stay hidden forever.

— Years ago, while I was studying this very scene, the Holy Spirit spoke to me and gave me the rhythm of it: “She hid him, she fed him, and he was growing. She hid him, she fed him, and he was growing. She hid him, she fed him, and he was growing. And when he could no longer be hid, she released him.” There is a season where God hides you, feeds you, and grows you in secret. But the hiding was never meant to last forever. The day comes when what He has grown in you can no longer be contained, and you release it into the assignment it was always being prepared for.

— God specializes in turning the weapon of destruction into the vehicle of deliverance. The same Nile meant for death became the route to the palace.

— What was sent to bury you, God will use to promote you.

— A season that looks like it was designed to destroy you can be used by God to transport you and usher you into your destiny. 

4. God Made The Enemy Finance The Ministry.

Now watch the masterpiece. Pharaoh’s daughter pulls the baby out, and she needs someone to nurse him. The servant fetches a Hebrew woman, who ‘just so happens’ to be Moses’ own mother. And the princess says, “I will pay you to take care of him.” Let that land. The household that wanted Moses dead ended up paying his own mother to raise him, and later funded his entire education in the palace. God made the enemy finance the ministry.

How this applies to you:

— Exodus 2:9 ERV says Pharaoh’s daughter told Moses’ mother, “I will pay you to take care of him.” The enemy’s treasury funded the deliverer’s upbringing.

— Moses got a Hebrew Nanny (his mother) and an Egyptian education in Pharaoh’s 

house. God gave him both, on Pharaoh’s dime.

— Moses was not just called to lead. He was called to write the first five books of the Bible: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. That kind of assignment demanded a trained, literate, disciplined mind, and God made sure Moses received the finest education on earth at that time, inside the very palace that wanted him dead.

— The schooling the enemy paid for became the exact skill the assignment required. 

— Acts 7:22 ERV says, “The Egyptians taught Moses everything they knew. He was a powerful man in all he said and did.” The kingdom marked for destruction trained the man who would dismantle it.

— God is so strategic that He can bill your enemy for your development.

— What the enemy spends to destroy you, God will repurpose to prepare you.

— God knows how to make your enemies pay for your preparation.

— The very system that opposed your purpose can end up equipping you for it, because God controls the outcome, not the opposition.

Father, I thank You that I was born carrying an assignment from heaven!

The attacks on my life are proof of the call on my life!

The greater my assignment, the greater the attack, and the greater Your grace!

No weapon formed against me will ever prosper!

The enemy’s poison cannot stop my God-given purpose!

What was sent to drown me became the road that carried me!

You turn every weapon into a vehicle for my destiny!

You are so strategic You make my enemies finance my preparation!

Nothing the enemy spent against me can cancel what You planned before me!

This is THE YEAR OF DISCOVERY, and GREATER IS COMING FOR ME!
